Noteworthy Perfomances & Recordings of Maggie Martin
Native San Franciscan, Maggie Martin, formed her first musical ensemble -- an a capella choir of fellow 7th graders -- in the St. Vincent de Paul's (http://www.svdpsf.com/) schoolyard. By 14 she had taught herself guitar and a string of all girl bands followed. One of the bands, a five piece ensemble called “the Anti...”, made it to the Liebes Battle of the Bands at the Cow Palace.
In her twenties, Maggie became fascinated with opera and studied classical voice, most notably with Bella Resek. She eventually earned her BA in Music cum laude, with distinction, at Sonoma State University. With choreographer, Diana Keener, she created “Mixed Company”, a mixed media performance ensemble which was active for five years during the 90s and included shows at Theater Artaud, Cal Arts and community theater houses.
Martin has written and arranged music for dance, art installations, children’s theater, a comedy show, public access TV and multimedia. Her most recent project is the Mad Maggies (http://www.themadmaggies.com/index.php).
